Tulip Festival With Buster & Kara

Buster + Kara + Tulips = Magic

Kara giving her american cocker spaniel Buster a high five in a field of tulips in Oregon.

I think Kara put it best herself:

"I highly recommend Willow Bee Photography for anyone looking to capture meaningful and beautifully composed moments. Lynette, the photographer, did an exceptional job photographing both myself and my dog, Buster.

Despite Buster being a bit restless during the session, Lynette remained incredibly patient and skillful throughout. She employed a variety of thoughtful techniques to keep him engaged—such as incorporating movement by having us walk through the tulip fields and using a squeaky toy to grab his attention. Her calm, creative approach not only helped Buster feel more comfortable but also resulted in some truly stunning images.

The photos perfectly captured the connection between us. Lynette has a wonderful eye for detail and creates the most beautiful photos. I’m so grateful for the experience and the memories she helped preserve." -Kara Bennett

A little photoshop magic removed Buster's harness and leash.

Buster is like most dogs, not used to being in front of the camera. He was excited to visit a new place, and was full of energy from the start to the end of the session. I think a lot of people with dog's who fit this description are hesitant to book a session because they fear their dog simply won't behave.

Now, I'm not saying Buster was misbehaving by any means. But did he follow commands? Not really. Did he need to stay on leash for his session? Absolutely! I was still able to capture a gallery full of amazing photos for Kara to cherish for years to come. How did I do it?

Interaction

Trotting through the yellow tulips.

The first half of Kara and Buster's session, I didn't even try to pose them. I let them play in the tulips. I let them interact. If I'm being honest, I don't really ever try to pose clients anyway. I give them some direction and prompts, and then let their personalities shine through. For the photo above I asked Kara to walk Buster up and down the aisle of tulips, looking anywhere except the camera. Bonus points if she looks at Buster.

I had Kara get down on Buster's level, and give him lots of treats. I like to keep your pet's happy during their session, and cookies go a long way for most dogs!

Look at those beautiful brown eyes!

Okay, I think that's enough talking. Please enjoy some more of my favorite images from this tulip session.
