It's been awhile since I've written a blog post, but I was inspired today after comparing photos I took yesterday, to photos I took today, all in the same spot in my yard. Why did the photos from yesterday seem more warm, and closer to the style I aspire towards? The only difference was the light. The position of the sun, and the amount of clouds made, to me, a huge difference in the quality of the photos.

Cordelia, my little model. You can see the warm glow in this photo, taken on 10/16/20, in the shade around noon.

Same location, same time of day, same model. The warmth is gone. Taken 10/17/20 around noon.

Why the difference in warmth if both were in the shade?

That's a good questions, and I do have an answer! While both photos were taken at the same time of day in the shade, the sun still played a huge factor in the difference. In the first photo, it was NOT a cloudy day. Therefore the sun had it's full power at work, and gave it's warmth to the photo. In the second photo, it WAS a cloudy day, and clouds were blocking the sun when that photo was taken, greatly diminishing the warmth.

Which photo is your favorite?

It's hard to choose a favorite, though I personally prefer warmer photos. With that said, even the cooler photos turned out great in my opinion. The colors are still rich, which is important to me. They also show the dogs' personalities, which is equally important when I'm shooting a session whether it's dogs in my own family, or a client's pet.
